The most extensive and ancient catacombs in Rome, the catacombs of Domitilla were originally the private burial ground of Flavia Domitilla, the granddaughter of Domitian. Domitilla was exiled to the island of Ventotene for her Christian beliefs in 95, while her husband Flavius Clemens was killed in the same year for being a Christian.
