Domus Aurea

Domus Aurea

Description

Named as result of the amount of gold leaf with which its facade was decorated, the Domus Aurea extended over the Oppio, Celio and Palatino hills and included several banqueting halls, nympheums, baths and terraces.

Built after the fire of Rome in 64 AD, Nero’s residence was surrounded by a huge park in whose grounds were included vineyards, hunting facilities and even an artificial lake.
