Trevi Fountain

Trevi Fountain

Description

Immortalized by Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita, the Trevi Fountain is the largest and most famous fountain in Rome.

Originally baroque in style, it was commenced by Nicola Salvi in 1732 and completed in 1762 by Giuseppe Pannini. The fountain is decorated with statues of Neptune riding a carriage drawn by seahorses guided by tritons.

The fountain is supplied by one of the oldest aqueducts in Rome while its name derives from the fact that it is located at the intersection of three streets (tre vie= trevi).
