Description

The Area

Located in Via Mastro Giorgio in the Testaccio area of Rome, close to such important historic sites as the Circus Maximus and the Bocca della Verità, the apartment lies just a short distance from Piramide underground station (Linea B) and is well served by the city bus service.
Between the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC, Testaccio was a port on the River Tiber, the place in which goods from all over the Roman Empire were landed having been brought up the River Tiber from the sea port of Ostia Antica.

Today Testaccio is an eclectic, rather bohemian area, an area in which the traditional Roman way of life lives side by side with innovation. One of the best examples of this blend is the MACRO Future gallery of contemporary art which is housed within a former meat market.
From Monday to Saturday the main square of the Testaccio area is occupied by a picturesque open air fruit, vegetable, herb and flower market, while the famous Sunday-morning Porta Portese flea market is also held just a short distance from the apartment.

Testaccio is also famous for its nightlife. Indeed some of the most fashionable bars and nightclubs in Rome are located in Via Monte Testaccio, a street which skirts the artificial mound of ancient pottery from which the Testaccio area takes its name. Some of the bars are dug into the ancient pottery hillside and it is possible to see fragments of antique amphorae in their walls.

The apartment is located in an ideal position for visiting tourist attractions by day and enjoying the lively nightlife of Testaccio by night. The trattorias and restaurants of Testaccio are famous for their typical Roman cuisine.

The Apartment

The apartment is located on the first floor of a late 19th century palazzo with a large internal courtyard. The building is served by a concierge.
Cozy and welcoming, the recently restructured apartment is divided into two main areas, both of which are furnished in a practical modern style. The day area is composed of a sitting room with double sofa bed (190 cm x 160 cm) and a kitchenette. The kitchen is fully fitted with microwave oven, fridge, gas hob and all necessary pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. The sitting room has satellite television and a DVD player.

An antechamber divides the day area from the sleeping quarters in such a way as to ensure the privacy of all the guests using the apartment. The bedroom is furnished with a double bed and a large wardrobe. A fifth guest may sleep in single folding bed in the living room.
The bathroom is decorated in shades of white and aqua-green and is fitted with a shower.
The apartment has air conditioning, washing machine, safe, an autonomous heating system and free WI FI Internet access in order to ensure maximum comfort.

How to get there

From the airport

Taxi service:

Upon request a driver will pick you up at the airports of Fiumicino or Ciampino and drive you to your apartment. You can request the service by sending us an e-mail including your flight details.

From Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino airport

Take the city train to Stazione Ostiense. From here go along Viale delle Cave Ardeatine, cross Piazzale Ostiense and go along Via Marmorata until Largo Gelsomini. Once there turn left towards via Galvani. Via Mastro Giorgio is the second street on the right.

From Ciampino airport airport

Take the CO.TRA.L bus near the Bus Arrivals to the “Anagnina” underground station, from which you should then take the underground to Roma Termini station. From here you can take the underground-line B (towards “Laurentina”) up to “Piramid"). From here go along Via Marmorata, turn left towards via Galvani. Via Mastro Giorgio is the second street on the right.

From the train station

The apartment is comfortable and furnished with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. It is well situated with a large local market that sets up daily Monday through Saturday from 7a.m. until 1p.m., there are many neighbourhood restaurants, a laundromat, shops and most importantly it is reasonably close to bus and metro. I would highly recommend it and would stay there again!

We loved staying in Testaccio. It's a lovely neighborhood away from the tourist scene, but close enough to see the city center sights. There is a wonderful morning market there. We made some great meals from the fresh ingredients that were readily available, inexpensive and literally just steps from our door. Checking in was easy and the apartment was very comfortable. Violarosso has some great gelati. Pizzaria Remo is the best pizza we ever had. There were 3 in our party and there was ample room for all of us. We bought a weekly pass on the Metro and used it to go to a specific area, and then explore it on foot all day. Easy to get around!
I would recommend this neighborhood and this apartment and would rent the same place if I ever get back to Rome!
