The Area

Testaccio is one of the oldest and most characteristic areas of Rome, an area which, even though it is now one of the most fashionable areas of the modern-day city, has nevertheless retained its original spirit.
Located close to such important historic sites as the Circus Maximus and the Bocca della Verità, Testaccio takes its name from Monte Testaccio, a mound of discarded pottery created by the Romans between the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. The Latin name for the area (testa e cocci) refers to the fact that it was characterized by discarded fragments of the amphorae used to transport goods from the sea port of Ostia Antica to the river port on the banks of the River Tiber which served the city of Rome.

Today Testaccio is famous for its trattorias, restaurants in which it is possible to sample some of the most authentic specialities of Roman cuisine, and its nightlife. Indeed, some of the most fashionable bars and nightclubs in Rome are located in Via Monte Testaccio, a street which skirts the artificial mound of ancient pottery from which the Testaccio area takes its name. Many of the bars are dug into the ancient pottery hillside and it is possible to see fragments of antique amphorae in their walls.

The apartment is located in Via Mastro Giorgio, a street which joins Piazza Testaccio, the site of picturesque daily fruit, vegetable, herb and flower market, and Piazza Santa Maria Liberatrice, the square which is traditionally recognized as the heart of Testaccio and is famous for its theatre and delightful public gardens. The famous Sunday-morning Porta Portese flea market is also held just a short distance from the apartment.
However, Testaccio is also famous for another ‘historic’ reason: it is home to Campo Testaccio, the football ground at which AS Roma football club was founded in the 1930s.
The apartment lies just a short distance from Piramide underground station (Linea B) and is well served by the city bus service.

The apartment

Located in a characteristic palazzo with concierge in Via Mastro Giorgio, in the heart of Testaccio, the 40 m² first floor apartment is divided into a day area, composed of a kitchenette with hob, oven, fridge, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery and a dining table, and a sleeping area composed of a double bed at ground level and a second double bed on a balcony floor. The bathroom is fitted with shower.
The apartment also has satellite TV, an autonomous heating system and air conditioning.
The apartment can sleep up to 4 people.

This accommodation is perfect for families with small children wishing to visit the city by public transport by day and to relax in one of the many local restaurants in the evening.

From the airport

Taxi service

Upon request a driver will pick you up at the airports of Fiumicino or Ciampino and drive you to your apartment.You can request the service by sending us an e-mail including your flight details.

From Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino airport

Take the city train to Stazione Ostiense. From here go along Viale delle Cave Ardeatine, cross Piazzale Ostiense and go along Via Marmorata until Largo Gelsomini. Once there turn left towards via Galvani. Via Mastro Giorgio is the second street on the right.

From Ciampino airport

Take the COTRAL bus near the Bus Arrivals to the “Anagnina” underground station, from which you should then take the underground to Roma Termini station. From here you can take the underground-line B (towards “Laurentina”) up to “Piramide” . From here go along Via Marmorata, turn left towards via Galvani. Via Mastro Giorgio is the second street on the right.

E' stata una bella vacanza, anche se corta purtroppo. Ma per dire la verità abbiamo visto quasi tutto, almeno i più famosi e i piedi fanno male e siamo stanchi. Comunque la casa è carina e ben sistemata.

This apartment exceeded our expectations: spotlessly clean and provided with all we needed.
Testaccio is a great place to stay - the markets are very good - fresh food in abundance.
We threw our coins in the Trevi Fountain and if your wish to come back is granted we will certainly stay here again.

Somos una familia, de Valencia, hemos estado aquí en Roma 6 días y la verdad es que nos quedaríamos 6 días mas.
Esta ciudad nunca te la acabas, siempre vas descubriendo sitios, calles, iglesias nuevas...
La gente es muy agradable y servicial y este barrio es genial (con mercado, restaurantes bien de precio, tiendecillas...), y el apartamento muy acogedor por dentro y por fuera. Parece y es la típica finca con patio italiana de esas de las pelis.
Que paséis un buen viaje y que disfrutéis tanto como nosotros de esta ciudad.
