Description

The Area

Distinguished since ancient times by the Pyramid of Cestius, the Aventine hill is the southernmost of the seven hills of Ancient Rome. In medieval times, the Aventine hill was embellished with the building of a number of splendid churches, while in later centuries its beauty was further enhanced with the construction of luxurious villas. The apartment is located in Via della Piramide Cestia, just a few yards from Piramide underground station (Linea B). The area is still known as one of the most peaceful neighbourhoods in the city.

The entire Aventino area lies within easy walking distance of the apartment and can be easily visited on foot. Starting from the nearby Pyramid of Cestius and walking along the shady Viale Aventino, it is possible to visit the medieval churches of Santa Prisca and Santa Sabina and the villa of the Knights of Malta before reaching two of Rome’s most beautiful viewpoints: Giardino degli Aranci, which offers breathtaking views over the St Peter’s Basilica, and Piazzale di Romolo e Remo, which overlooks the Circus Maximus and the Palatine hill. Continuing across the Circus Maximus and along Via San Gregorio, it is possible to admire the magnificent splendour of the Colosseum.

On the other side of the Pyramid of Cestius lies the neighbourhood of Testaccio, one of the oldest and most picturesque areas of Rome. Probably the most “Roman” area of Rome, this lively area is famous for its Roman traditions, although it is also well known for the fine array of fashionable restaurants, pubs, bars and discos which are located there. The area is also home to one of the largest fruit and vegetable markets in the city.

The Apartment

Located on the ground floor of a smart palazzo building, the flat has its own entrance via a romantic 70 square metre Mediterranean garden.

The apartment centres around a large, tastefully decorated sitting room with a leather-upholstered double sofa-bed. The sitting room is overlooked by a fully fitted kitchen with microwave and dishwasher and leads to a double bedroom, following which there is a large bathroom with shower and bathtub and another double bedroom (to which a single sofa-bed may be added on request). In this last bedroom the double bed can be splitted into two single beds.

On the other side of the sitting room, there is a real and proper mini-apartment composed of a small living room with kitchenette, a delightful bathroom with shower and washing machine and a bedroom with a double bed (to which a single sofa-bed may be added on request).

Furnished to the highest standards, the apartment is fully lined with parquet flooring. The dark teak boards of the floor beautifully contrast the brightly coloured walls whose floral patterns are specifically designed to recall the plants in the garden outside.

In order to ensure the utmost comfort, every room is the apartment is fitted with an air-conditioning, central heating system, plasma TV and DVD player and free WI FI Internet access. The apartment can sleep up to 10 people.

On arrival, guests will be requested to furnish a deposit of €300 which will be returned on conclusion of their stay, less the cost of any damage to the apartment.

From the airport

Taxi service

On request a driver will meet you at the airport (Fiumicino or Ciampino) and accompany you directly to the apartment.

From Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci airport

Take the light railway service to Ostiense station, cross Piazzale dei Partigiani and walk along Viale delle Cave Ardeatine as far as Piazzale Ostiense and the Pyramid of Cestius. From the pyramid take Viale della Piramide Cestia as far as the apartment.

From Ciampino airport

Take the CO.TRA.L. bus service from the bus station outside the airport arrivals hall as far as Anagnina underground station and then the underground service to Roma Termini station. From Roma Termini underground station take the Linea B underground service (towards Laurentina) as far as “Piramide” station and then Via della Piramide Cestia as far as the apartment.

From Roma Termini railway station

Take the Linea B underground service (towards Laurentina) as far as “Piramide” underground station and then Via della Piramide Cestia as far as the apartment.

By car

Meter parking is available in the streets close to the apartment. The closest public car parks are the municipal car park at Piramide underground station and the car park in Piazzale dei Partigiani
